FLATLINERS is Back from the Dead to Haunt Us [Trailer]

By Marina Antunes [06.13.17]

Full admission: the prospect of a new Flatliners movie does not sit well with me in part because I have a soft spot for the original which, though cheesy, still plays really well. The fact that the remake stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, James Norton and Nina Dobrev and is directed by Niels Arden Oplev (of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fame) provides a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, this won't devolve into typical horror movie territory.

Sadly, I don't think they've managed to succeed.

The first trailer for the upcoming Flatliners starts off well enough but in the second half seems to fall exactly into the trap that I was hoping could be avoided: the prototypical "haunting from beyond" movie.

The question now is: does the trailer undersell the movie? The pedigree here is certainly high but it's not the first time we've been duped by great credentials and quite frankly, the trailer is underwhelming.

Flatliners opens September 28.
