Darren Aronofsky Channels 70's Horror in MOTHER! [Trailer]

By Marina Antunes [08.08.17]

Last week we were teased with a tiny preview of Darren Aronofsky's new movie mother! which is set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and today, we get a good look at the movie which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a husband and wife who move into a house in the country.

Shortly after the renovations are complete, Ed Harris stops in for a visit and followed closely by is his wife played by Michelle Pfeiffer. And soon... the house is full of strangers come to see Bardem.

mother! also co-stars Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Stephen McHattie and Kristen Wiig.

There had been speculation that Aronofsky's next project would be a psychological thriller more in line with Black Swan than with Noah but I didn't expect something this reminiscent of Rosemary's Baby. It doesn't feel quite like a remake but it comes pretty darn close - definitely first cousin material.

I love the trailer which plays like a 70's horror movie complete with creepy sex, creepy basements and creepy music and really, if anyone can pull something like this off, Aranofsky is the man to do it. We'll find out soon enough if he's been successful.

mother! opens September 15.

Recommended Release: Rosemary's Baby

someone say Rosemary's Baby! Sharon Tate and Rosemary's Baby, Beetles Rolling stones and Rosemary's Baby!
    Helterskelter and Rosemary's Baby...
oh it goes and goes and goes.
    The nine and Gene Rodenberry.
sounds like ramblings and madness doesn't it...but it's a code my friends.
now I wonder why this film is being made, where it's being made and why chose these actors.
