John Boyega Leads Resistance in PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING [Trailer]

By Marina Antunes [10.06.17]

Who needs to get buried in the overwhelming number of debuts and announcements out of San Diego Comic Con when you can take down the house at NY? I'm sure that was on the minds of the marketing teams at Legendary and Universal who decided to use NY Comic Con as the launching pad for their soon-to-be-everywhere marketing campaign for Pacific Rim: Uprising.

The follow up to Guillermo del Toro's hit unfolds 10 years after the events of Pacific Rim, providing a great excuse for a new cast of lead characters including John Boyega who is taking over for Idris Elba as the leader of the resistance - he also happens to be playing Elba's son in the movie. Along with Boyega, the movie also stars Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona and Tian Jin with Charlie Day, Burn Gorman and Rinko Kikuchi reprising their roles from the original.

Though del Toro returns as producer, the new instalment in the franchise is being written and directed by Steven S. DeKnight. A long time television writer, producer and director whose credits include "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Spartacus" and its follow-ups and most recently "Daredevil," he is making is feature film debut here.

Pacific Rim: Uprising opens March 23, 2018.

This looks...horrible. Like Power Rangers, but infinitely worse. And Boyega is no Elba.
