Riley Keough is Tortured at THE LODGE [Trailer]

By Marina Antunes [05.14.19]

Writer/director duo Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala have already proven themselves to have a knack for horror with the terrifying Goonight Mommy and the upcoming Field Guide to Evil anthology. Now the pair have made the jump to English-language feature filmmaking with the Sundance hit The Lodge.

Riley Keough and Richard Armitage star as Grace and Richard, soon-to-be newlyweds who take a trip to a remote cabin so that Grace can get acquainted with Richard's kids Aidan (It's Jaeden Martell) and Mia (Lia McHugh). When Richard has to leave for a few days, Grace finds herself spending some awkward time with the kids but the awkwardness turns downright scary when Grace gets paranoid that someone or something is trying to get her; all of this after the kids discover that Grace was the sole survivor of a doomsday suicide cult.

The early buzz from Sundance puts this side-by-side with other Sundace horror hits like Robert Eggers The Witch (review) and Ari Aster's Hereditary, it remains to be seen whether Franz & Fiala have delivered the next big horror hit.

The filmmaker's track record certainly suggests as much and Keough is certainly a great talent but the real selling point here is the trailer which suggests the movie will live up to the very high expectations.

No official release date yet but The Lodge is slated to open later this year.
