THE STRANGERS Director Returns with THE DARK AND THE WICKED [Trailer]

By Marina Antunes [10.02.20]

Writer/director Bryan Bertino made a huge splash in horror circles with his debut feature The Strangers and while he's made a couple of solid films since that debut in 2008, he's been calculated about his films and in the decade since his debut has only made four films.

His fourth and most recent project is The Dark and the Wicked which stars Marin Ireland and Michael Abbott Jr. As Louise and Michael, siblings who return to the family farm to look after their mother in the wake of their father's slow death.

Shortly after arriving on the family farm, it becomes clear that there's more going on than just grief and soon the siblings start suffering from the same affliction as their mother and a sense that something evil is taking over their family.

While the premise is fairly standard fare horror, Bertino's brilliance is his visual language, his use of camera, sound and music to build a sense of terror, often just off screen, that gets under your skin. This trailer suggests he's in good form here and I can't wait to see what he delivers.

The Dark and the Wicked opens in theatres, on demand and digital on November 6.
