Blade Runner 2099 Series Ordered by Amazon

Amazon has ordered a live-action Blade Runner series called “Blade Runner 2099" according to a scoop by variety.

Exact plot details are under wraps, but the title indicates the show will take place fifty years after the events of “Blade Runner 2049,” the 2017 sequel to the original “Blade Runner.”

Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Ridley Scott also executive producing under his Scott Free Productions banner.

Michael Green, the co-writer of “Blade Runner 2049,” will also executive produce with Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon’s head of television Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger of Scott Free, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett. Tom Spezialy has joined the writers room and will also serve as an executive producer.

    Blade Runner (the original) did not need a sequel. It was a self-contained movie and told a complete, if sometimes flawed, story. It's grates at me that good films cannot be left well enough alone and are instead tainted by terrible sequels (like BR 2049, AvP Requiem, Terminator Dark Fate, etc etc etc etc)

    yeah good point. theres a blade runner japanese anime they tacked on that also seems out of place. The original is better every time i watch it. i did like many parts of 2049 although it wasn't as good as the original. that rutger hauer monologue..it made the movie for me

    BR 2049 and T: Dark Fate are very good films. You are making a strong argument for more sequels.

    The original Blade Runner did leave an ending which could be explored in the future. While I do not like the way they went (Killing Rachel etc.), the movie was not as bad as it could have been.
    The series has a very rich world they can play around in. It does not need to be a retelling of the original. Also, 50 more years of development... who will be in charge by then in the Replicant world.
